Wildfires are definitely one of the most destructive accidents of nature ever and it seems to punish human carelessness more than anything. For that matter, California has no shortage of wildfires. However, one city there has thought of a brilliant and natural way to prevent wildfires– by employing goats with the help of their “Goat Fund Me” campaign.

Not a baaaah-d idea, wouldn’t you say? Nevada City, California, US is taking extra precautions because the said place exists only 70 miles from Paradise City. It can be recalled that Paradise City suffered a devastating wildfire last year. Hence, to prevent wildfires, Nevada City is to begin using goats to eat vegetation in order to minimize potential fuel for wildfires.

“There is little need to stress how important it is to the safety and wellbeing of Nevada City citizens and neighboring residents that we reduce the fire load in our surrounding forests and neighborhood,” says Reinette Senum, Nevada City’s vice-mayor.

For this, however, they will need a lot of goats which do not come cheap if they want a herd big enough to cover 450 acres of overgrowth. The city estimated that $30,000 is needed for said goats and to prevent wildfires. Hence, Nevada City turned to GoFundMe for help with their appropriately titled fundraising campaign, “Goat Fund Me.”

Of course, it’s not just up to the goats to prevent wildfires. Once they are done nibbling and chewing on the vegetation, humans will do the rest and clear any flammable debris or material such as wood or tree stumps. At the time of writing, the campaign has raised around $20,000 already, so if you live in California and want to prevent wildfires, then there’s no other way to goat.
