This Traffic Light With An Umbrella Has The Most Touching Backstory Ever

Acts of compassion and kindness are often a nice respite from the chaotic and often brutal laws of nature. Even more so when a more powerful creature actually decides to help a smaller and more fragile animal, some of which are often considered as prey. Such a tale exists in the most unusual of places in Turkey– a traffic light in the middle of the streets.

One busy day in the city of Izmir in Turkey, a mother dove decided to make the top of a traffic light her home. She built a nest there despite the pollution and the noise of the streets. It was not long before a good person noticed her, a veterinarian named Hakan Erdoğan– no relation to the president of Turkey, mind you.

Time went by and Erdoğan came across a chick (bird chick, not human girl, mmkay?) who fell out of its mother’s nest. Erdoğan could not return it, so he thought of a brilliant idea, letting the mother dove on top of the traffic light be the foster parent of the baby dove. To Erdoğan’s surprise, she accepted the chick wholeheartedly and even took care of it until it could fly. Time went on and Erdoğan found more orphan chicks and the mother dove kept raising them too with no hesitation.

It was not long after the mother dove received kindness as compensation for her motherly deeds. Some Samaritan actually tied up an open umbrella on top of the traffic light, providing a shade and cover for the mother dove. Right now, the mother dove will soon be raising her own baby doves and has laid some eggs. Erdoğan also keeps checking on her as they have become rather acquainted, and even the people around the mother dove seem to be helping her stay safe.

Erdoğan and the strangers who put an umbrella on the traffic light continue to be proof that humans and wildlife can coexist without harming each other.
