One would think that the Cold War between Russia and the US is over, after all, it has been 27 years since the downfall of the Soviet Union. However, it seems Russia’s space department is opening old wounds from the Cold War’s space race after promising to check whether American astronauts have actually been on our moon using their very own cosmonauts to go there.
“We’ve set such a task – to go there and check if they were there or not. The Americans say – they’ve been there. We’ll verify that,” Dmitry Rogozin promised jokingly. It can be recalled that Russia is actually preparing to launch its very own moon mission and that is expected to happen around the early 2030s, still a long while from now.
Before that, however, Rogozin laid out their initial plans for the moon, saying that Russia will build a permanent moon base on 2025 to make it easier for their cosmonauts. The said moon base is to be operated by remotely controlled robots similar to James Cameron’s film “Avatar.”
Despite the statement being a joke, skeptics of the 1969 US moon landing by Neil Armstrong are sure to be intrigued by what Russia is doing. A lot of people are actually claiming that America’s moon landing was staged and fake because the US needed a quick response in the space race after the USSR (former Russia) managed to beat them in the first man in space category with 1961’s Yury Gagarin.
Meanwhile, Russians, around 57 percent of them are actually with the skeptics on that matter as they are also confident that the US faked their Neil Armstrong moon landing.
