There was a time when Christmas was a season to be jolly… back when the economy was better. Nowadays, more and more people are becoming mindful of their holiday expenditures. Oh, the times we live in. One woman from Florida, however, just shrugs that Christmas stress off. Every year too, since she spends tens of thousands of dollars on Christmas decorations.
54-year-old Michelle Sowell from Milton, Florida is well-loved by her husband, her family, and the power companies. This winter, she has already spent $45,000 on Christmas decorations. This includes thousands of lights and around 3.5 miles of extension cords. She also did this last year and her electricity bill for the month of December shot up to $3,500.

Of course, Michelle does not simply do this out of just for herself or for her family. They actually do this every year for the Sowell’s North Pole Christmas Light Display. It’s not just lights that they offer for onlookers too. They also have train rides, carnival and beach scenes, and religious and snow-themed areas:
“They all call me the crazy Christmas lady! It makes me feel good, it makes all the work that we’ve done for months worthwhile. To see the kids get aboard the trains and point and ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ and scream and yell, that’s what makes it worthwhile. That’s what it’s all about,” said Michelle.
This year, though, their efforts might finally be rewarded a lot more since they have been invited to join “The Great Christmas Light Fight” which is a holiday display contest where the winner gets to take home $50,000.
