Fresh, delivered food right to your door. Or cell. It seems one Virginia jail has found a creative way to make some extra money. The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office has introduced, ‘811 Marketplace,’ an online food ordering program for inmates inside the city jail.
Scheduled to begin tomorrow, friends and families of the criminals can order their loved one a meal to be delivered right to their cell. Inmates are not allowed to order meals, or go on the Internet…
“We are proud to offer an option for friends and family members to send meals to their loved ones in jail, and at the same time, the new online cafe will generate revenue for the Norfolk City Jail,” said Sheriff Bob McCabe. “In tight budget times, we are always looking for ways to cover our expenses without using additional tax dollars.”

The ordering process is very simple. Customers search for the inmate using their name, date of birth or inmate ID number. They can then choose the correct mugshot from the results. A picture menu displays the daily lunch options. Offering club sandwiches, pizza, hamburgers and more, each meal comes with a soda and a price tag of $9.
Inmates can receive up to two meals a day. The orders will even get delivered the same day if they are placed before 8 a.m.
