Holiday-makers are being asked to take a leap of faith with a new cruise where the details of the entire itinerary are hidden in riddles.
Only the price of the aptly titled Secret Sailaway, along with departure and return dates, will be revealed to customers. Instead the details of each element of the cruise – be that destination, or the locations of stop-overs and connection flights – are concealed within a separate riddle.
Potential voyagers have two choices: embrace the mystery of the cruise or attempt to decipher the details by cracking the riddles. Customers can opt to have the answers revealed to them post-purchase or prolong the suspense all the way up to boarding.
On sale at Bolsover Cruise Club and priced at £12,339 the voyage takes in no less than six stunning destinations in 16 nights, along with several 5 stop-overs in some of the world’s best hotels.
Each riddle has been carefully crafted to include some well-known facts about every destination as well as some less obvious. In total the cruise itinerary is detailed by 10 riddles, which can be viewed here.
An example of one of the riddles:
Highly sacred and holy,
Our natives praise,
Highest point on the island
Still active it displays.
From the big smoke,
Have a corporate treat.
Enjoy a cup of Kopi Luwak
From your luxurious seat.
Voyagers will start their journey in “The highest point of the island” before moving onto a “Spectacular island resort… with a magnificent lagoon.” They can also expect to encounter “natives naughty and nice” and “modern dinosaurs”.
From there it’s a case of Orchard Roads, pink sand, 24-hour butler service, heroic cities and a touch of whiskey class before culminating in a city state.
Michael Wilson, Managing Director of Bolsover Cruise Club, said: “The idea behind the Riddle Cruise is that we wanted to provoke people’s interest in the destinations.
“Travelling is not as adventurous as it once was. You can find out everything about where you’re going before you’re within a thousand miles. This is our attempt to bring back some of the adventure, albeit with all the comforts of a luxury cruise.
“There’s a very real chance people will book this cruise thinking they’ve cracked the riddles and know where they’re going, only to find out they were wrong… perhaps even wrong by a few continents.
“This is not a mystery cruise; we’ve provided all the details of the cruise itinerary – we’ve just provided them in a different way to usual.”
