The Newest Selfie Trend That Has People Risking Their Phones For A High-Five

The Internet has done it again, yet another selfie trend that has left us scratching our heads.

The high five selfie trend has swept social media and left many with broken or cracked phones all in the name of likes.

The strange trend seems to have all started after one college student’s selfie went viral. North Carolina State university student Seth Schneider posted a photo of himself giving himself a high-five as his phone is suspended in mid-air. He quickly tweeted the photo.

“Today is the proudest day of my life. I successfully took a picture of me high fiving myself,” he wrote.

It seems like many other social media users were impressed as well. Schneider’s photo has been retweeted more than 17,000 times and rackedup more than 430,000 likes.

Of course, the success inspired others to try the same thing. Thus, social media was flooded with blurry selfies. People were so obsessed with the trend that many sacrificed their phone’s safety just to post their own.

While Schneider has since shared that he was able to catch his phone immediately after the photo was taken, others were not so lucky. Some used pillows or soft objects to keep their phones from smashing into the ground.

These hands-free selfies seem to be popping up everywhere. Some are even putting their own twists on selfies, like dabbing (don’t even get us started on this trend).
