The purpose of fashion has certainly eluded the thinking of a lot of artists out there. Gone are the days when designing something to start a healthy, practical trend is prioritized, nowadays it’s all about being unique for the sake of it. As a result, things can and do get weird. Sometimes to the point of fashion designers using human skin tones to make high heels. Just when you thought Halloween was over…
One would think that animal leather was the be-all and end-all when it comes to classy fashion designs, but no, someone had to use human skin. That is exactly what happened in Montreal, Canada. Two, er, “visionaries,” named Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran, a partnership also known as Fecal Matter (seriously), invented what is now called the “Skin Heel,” which is pretty much high heel shoes made with human skin in mind.
It’s not exactly made out of human skin, instead, Fecal Matter used silicone, which is the closest thing ever to human skin, as such it costs $10,000. The said high heel boots also extend up to the thigh, giving your feet an alien appearance.
Fecal Matter did express their reason for making such a fashion invention, saying that they want to “provoke society” with their work. They are also well known for their highly eccentric and almost alien work:
Well, whatever or whoever it is they want to provoke, Clive Barker is probably among them, those shoes look like they came straight out of the Hellraiser franchise.
Fecal Matter is also planning shorter and more affordable Skin Heels since $10,000 is too high a price just to look like a victim of the Chernobyl incident. What do you think though? Prada or nada? Feel free to discuss below.
