The use of mobile devices heavily influences purchase decisions in-store and online, and smartphone users who spend a bulk of their time on social networks drive a lot of retail traffic, according to an infographic put together by Monetate.
The infographic, called “The Retailer’s Guide to SoLoMo” (which stands for social, local, and mobile) shows that smartphone users are playing a larger role in social shopping, and shows how many people access social networks on their devices, how many research a product or service on their mobile device prior to purchase, and how many individuals actually visit a store in person.
A quick breakdown of the results:
- 50% of consumers use their phones to “assist” in-store shopping.
- 35% pf consumers intentionally brought their phone to research prices and reviews while shopping.
- 44% of retailers haven’t optimized their websites for mobile, despite smartphones influencing nearly $159 billion worth of sales in 2012.
