One skydiver had a terrifying moment when he suffered a major seizure mid-jump and it was all caught on camera. The footage, which has now gone viral, was uploaded to YouTube by the skydiver, Christopher Jones. He uploaded it on Sunday and it already has almost 6 million hits.
The video description explains it all from the skydiver’s own perspective:
“Possibly the scariest moment of my life. On the 14th of November 2014 while doing stage five of my Accelerated Free Fall program I have a near death experience. At around 9000ft I have a seizure while attempting a left hand turn. I then spend the next 30 seconds in free fall unconscious. Thankfully my jumpmaster manages to pull my ripcord at around 4000ft. I become conscious at 3000 ft and land safely back to the ground.”
The jump took place in Western Australia and began as any routine jump would. Jones said he felt perfectly fine before taking the plunge. Jones was still in the middle of his training program, so he fortunately had a trainer with him. The trainer was able to pull the skydiver’s ripcord just in time. Jones later came to and was able to land safely on the ground. Reports are saying an ambulance wasn’t even called and Jones was driven home from his mother.
Social media is on fire discussing the horrifying footage. Some are criticizing the man’s choice to skydive when he knew he was an epileptic. The skydiver says he had not suffered a seizure in many years and had his doctor’s approval prior to the jump.
