A 90’s teen classic is getting a modern makeover. She’s All That starred Freddie Prinze, Jr. as a popular high school jock tasked with making the nerdy girl into a prom queen. The movie was a hit and it seems like producers are hungry for a revival.
The remake will take the original story and give it a twist with a more diverse cast. While She’s All That did include Usher, Lil’ Kim and Dulé Hill, but they all held minor roles. Some are already comparing the remake with a creative analogy. The remake will be what “2003’s Love Don’t Cost a Thing was to 1987’s Can’t Buy Me Love—same story, but a whole lot less white.”
The Wrap reported on all the details.
“Kenny Leon will direct the remake, which Spike Lee‘s wife, Tonya Lewis Lee, will produce under her Tonik Productions banner. Miramax will also produce the remake, having released the original 1999 movie, which grossed more than $100 million worldwide. Weinstein Co. executive Julie Rapaport will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.”
It seems not everyone is thrilled about the remake. A fan reached out to Freddie Prinze, Jr. on Twitter to get his reaction on the news and it wasn’t very positive.
