Ronda Rousey, Too Violent For Walmart?

It seems that Walmart can’t handle Ronda Rousey. The queen of the octagon and the superstore are butting heads about Rousey’s new autobiography.

Ronda Rousey is known to dominate in the UFC octagon. The undefeated world champion fighter recently released her autobiography, My Fight/Your Fight. But, it seems not all retailers are thrilled about the new book. Walmart has been causing a bit of controversy on its handling of the book’s marketing.

At first details were a bit unclear. One source reported that the megastore had refused to sell the book in their stores. Apparently, the store found it too violent.

Page Six’s Richard Johnson reported incorrectly on Friday that Walmart wouldn’t sell the book at all “on the grounds that [Rousey is] too violent.”

The story struck a nerve with Ronda Rousey, who quickly fired back on social media.

Walmart sells rifles, ammunition and even violent books like American Sniper, which includes numerous incidents of violence. So, it would be farfetched for the company to refuse to sell a book because it mentioned UFC fighting.

Walmart quickly responded to the allegations. A spokesperson says the store never refused the book. In fact, it had been preparing for the book’s release since 2014. The store is also pre-selling Rousey’s book right now on their website.

While the retailer is offering the book online, they will not be selling it in stores and the reasons are unclear.

“There’s a variety of factors that we look at when determining what items to offer our customers. At this point we’ve chosen to offer this particular title to our customers online. We’ll continue to watch how customers respond.”

When asked if the book’s content played any role in the decision, the spokesperson responded with yet another vague comment.

“I’ve shared with you what I have to share. In terms of the factors that we look at, there are a lot of different factors that we look at when determining what items to offer our customers.”

It is unclear why Walmart is being so weird and quiet about the situation. There is one thing we know for sure, you shouldn’t mess with one of the most dangerous women in the world, Ronda Rousey.
