LinkedIn Releases API for Groups

LinkedIn Groups on Thursday released an API for third party developers.

To show what the application is capable of accomplishing the company showcased the API using Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference 2011 website. Attendees at the conference were able to share comments about event sessions and other event activities in real-time while communications with specific individuals.

Developers who use the API can pull in Group Discussions and sort them by Recency and Popularity, they can also allow users to join groups from their application, post group discussions, comment on discussions and even follow and like discussions.

How the program will be used is yet to be seen, however various developers have been requesting access to a Groups API so we probably won’t have to wait very long to see some specific real-world use platforms from the program.
