James Woods Sues Anonymous Twitter User For $10 Million

James Woods

Oscar nominated actor James Woods is suing a Twitter user after they tweeted a status that called him a cocaine addict. The lawsuit states that an anonymous Twitter user tweeted “cocaine addict James Woods still sniffing and spouting.” Woods believes that is grounds for defamation and invasion of privacy by false light.

The outspoken conservative says it all started after Woods tweet about Caitlyn Jenner and the recent Planned Parenthood controversy.

Apparently that spurred the user, called AL, to go on a spree, ranting about James Woods. Woods took offense, hence the lawsuit. Woods believes that this untrue statement was read by thousands of AL’s followers. We can’t confirm how many followers AL had, the account has since been deleted.

Winning this lawsuit would be a long shot for Woods. Since he is public figure he has to prove that the tweet was meant to cause actual malice. He would also have to prove that the statement caused him damage financially. Wood’s lawyer would also have to get Twitter to release the identification of the anonymous Twitter user.

Yet, Woods is still holding strong with a $10 million lawsuit. While this case may be more hassle than it is worth, experts are speculating that Wood’s doesn’t care. He just wants it to go on record that is was an untrue statement.
