James Bond’s been harboring a deep dark secret, and it’s back to haunt him in the teaser trailer for “Spectre“, the newest film feature in the 007 franchise, screening in cinemas November 6 2015.
Daniel Craig reprises his role as James Bond, who receives a cryptic message hidden in a box Moneypenny hands him. Freshly unearthed by Forensics amid the rubble of the bombed MI6, it points to fragments to Bond’s past. Clues to deeply-guarded secrets take him to a secret evil organization called SPECTRE, where he may come face-to-face with a new enemy who knows him better than himself, and who will make Bond question everything he has sworn to protect. Sam Mendes sits behind the camera once more from his cliff-hanging, heart-pounding directionand intense character development in “Skyfall“.
The title itself is the organization’s acronym for “Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion”. It comes as no surprise (and will be a satisfying bit of info for fans) that many of the most iconic villains in the 007 franchise are esteemed members: Dr. No (Dr. No), Emilio Largo (Thunderball) and, of course, Ernst Stavro Blofeld (From Russia With Love, Thunderball and Diamonds Are Forever — the list goes on and on).
Fans will have mixed feelings for this new installment. Ralph Fiennes plays Gareth Mallory, who takes up the helm of M after the demise of Dame Judi Dench’s “Olivia Mansfield” in “Skyfall“.
On the other hand, fans will have two good reasons to be beside themselves with excitement: two powerful performers will be joining the 007 franchise. Christopher Waltz plays Franz Oberhauser, Bond’s temporary legal guardian and “Spectre“s main villain. 007 fans will be delighted to recognize the character as having been one of the background characters in Ian Fleming’s short story “Octopussy and the Living Daylights“. Italian luminary Monica Belluci is cast as Lucia Sciarra, the widow of one of the assassins Bond has killed.
