James Blunt announced that’s he’s retiring from music for good, despite 18 million in album sales, five Grammy nominations, two Brit Awards and a couple of MTV Music Video Awards. Social media outlets, especially Twitter, think that this is wonderful news.

James Blunt’s announced he’s no longer making music. I could have told him that 10 years ago — Colin Sharkey (@colinsharkey) October 22, 2012
Tell us how you really feel, Twitter:
James Blunt quitting music? This is like Robert Mugabe quitting humanitarian relief work; would scarcely have associated him with it anyway.

James Blunt has announced that he is quitting the music industry. The US Army will have to come up with a new way of torturing POWs now

Good news, Jeremy Hunt! Warbler James Blunt has quit music, giving you a de-facto monopoly in the right-wing-dickhead-rhyming-slang market.

Yikes! So, not a lot of love out there for James Blunt right now, we get it. Then again, Blunt’s official retirement announcement included the phrases “I’ve spent a lot of time in Ibiza, where I have a villa,” and “I had a great time hanging out with friends on my yacht but we partied as well.” We get it, Santa has been good to you. I guess it is kind of hard to avoid the snark.
What do you think of James Blunt’s retirement? “Beautiful” news?
