Happy International Towel Day!

Happy International Towel Day! Today’s the day to be a hoopy frood, slam back some of that pan-galactic gargleblaster, and contemplate the perfection of the number 42 — the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything. EVERYTHING.

What is this we’ve been raving about all this time, you ask?

International Towel Day is in honor of Douglas Adams, author of the hilariously cosmic Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series. It chronicles the adventures and foibles of one Arthur Dent as he and his crew careen to and fro the galaxy with nothing but an electronic encyclopedia of the entire cosmos, and yes, a towel.

A towel, according to HHGG, is “about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have”. Let this infographic be your guide:

… Not to mention a host of other fun things to apply said towel as you journey across the universe.

Fans of the series are waving their towels in cheerful camaraderie all over the world.

… whether you’ve just come out of the shower, …

… or just monkeying around.

Because cuddly earth-critters need a towel, too!

Aside from your towel, it helps to know your emergency numbers in case you need an emergency exit from the planet.

Do you know here your towel is?

And in the event of Vogon poetry or the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal, always remember:

To conclude, here’s a video of how Babelfish candy are made. Just don’t put these in your ear.
