Google+ Pulls Fridge Into Its Circles, Service Shuttering Before Transition

Privacy-centric social sharing network Frid.ge has been acquired by Google, the service announced on their blog today.

While not super-prominent in the realm of social media, Frid.ge allowed for more judicious sharing of media than larger competitors like Facebook. Changes at Frid.ge are not news in and of themselves, as the network abruptly announced last week it was closing and prompted users to export their data by July 19th or face deletion.

But the mention of being folded into Google+ is a new one, and the four-person Frid.ge team will be moving from New York to Mountain View to manage the transition. On their blog, Frid.ge says:

Fridge is closing up shop — the team will be folded into Google+, where we’ll continue some of our efforts. We heard you loud and clear over the weekend, so we’re expanding the time during which your Fridge data will be available for offloading. While you will no longer be able to post anything new to Fridge, you will still be able to download and save your data until Saturday August 20, 2011 at 6pm ET. After that, in accordance with our privacy policy, we will delete all user data.

If you missed Frid.ge the first time around, here’s a clip from the company explaining how the service works. Have you been digging into Google+? Will the addition of Frid.ge enhance the service?
