Climbing or scaling a skyscraper is not usually what crosses one’s mind when they see the huge towering structures of the modern world. After all, fear is one of the most useful survival instincts for human beings. However, survival be damned for one man named Alain Roberts a.k.a. “French Spiderman” since he decided to scale down the 9th tallest skyscraper in the Philippines without any harness or safety gear.

The incident happened in Makati City, Philippines during one overcast morning. The French Spiderman, also a famous urban freeclimber started climbing up and scaling down the GT Tower in the area, which has a total height of 217 meters (712 ft.). What made the stunt a lot more daring is the fact that Roberts appeared to only use climbing chalk and had no visible ropes or other safety gear. Here’s several videos covering different angles of his climb:

Roberts actually started climbing the GT Tower at 10 a.m. and finished at around 11:30 a.m. While the French Spiderman did not bring any safety equipment with him, he did bring protection against the state laws; his own lawyer too, who was waiting for him at the bottom of the skyscraper, along with the police who were poised to arrest him:

According to the chief of police which arrested the French Spiderman, Roberts was not aware that he was breaking any laws. Still, this did not prevent GT Towers from pursuing a case against the freeclimber, as they now plan to sue Roberts.

However, this is probably not Roberts’ first brush with state laws and building management, as he had previously free-climbed taller buildings such as the 828-meter (2720 ft.) Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE.
