Five Great Activities For The First Day Of Summer

first day of summer

The first day of summer is here and the nation is experiencing a heatwave. In Boston it’s 81, 86 in San Antonio, 93 in LA and 88 in the Windy City. Today is the perfect day to cool down and enjoy some of our favorite summer activities that never get old and are perfect for the first day of summer.

1.) Slip n’ Slide

A Slip n’ Slide is the perfect way to cool off today. Rather than going to Wal-Mart and buying one of those crappy set-ups, go to Lowe’s and get a few tough tarps. Then get some of that dish soap that’s good for your hands and combine it with a hose. Find a hill and your good to go. Don’t forget to invite the neighbors!

2.) Popsicles

Why spend money on decent flavors when you can make awesome ones yourself? Get some lemonade mix or gatorade mix and put it in water with an ice cube tray then let it sit in the freezer for a couple hours.

3.) Tennis

If you’re looking to burn some serious calories on the first day of summer then tennis the best way to go. More often than not, there’s an apartment complex or school near you with courts that are available to the public. It’s hot out there today so don’t forget sunblock and plenty of water.

4.) Sunset Grill

As it starts to cool down this afternoon, round up a few people and grill out. You can do the boring stuff like dogs and burgers if you want to but everybody loves a good shish-ka-bob. Hit the store and get picks and fresh veggies and make whatever you want. Lather a couple of them up with barbecue sauce if you’re feeling experimental.

5.) Catch the Stars

Head outside tonight with that special someone and bring a blanket. If you live outside of a city, there are supposed to be great skies in most of the country. For bonus points make a great playlist on Spotify and download it so you can get away and still have some decent tunes. If you don’t have a bluetooth speaker just put your phone in a cup for a little makeshift amplifier.
