Facebook on Tuesday announced plans to push their Sponsored Stories ad platform directly into user news feeds in the early part of 2012.
Introduced in January 2011 the Sponsored Stories platform integrates a friends activities into small ads. The ads first started appearing in the column on the right side of the News Feed, those adds then following into the Facebook Ticket in November.
The move comes at a time when users have not received the ads well while Facebook hopes to push up revenue ahead of their expected $100 billion IPO in 2012. Using the sponsored stories platform along with other advertising methods Facebook hopes to push up ad spend on their 800 million-strong social network.
In a statement about the company’s plans a spokesperson said the ads will be used “sparingly” in a users News Feed with no more than one ad per day appearing. At this time Facebook had not determined the speed at which Sponsored Stories will cycle through a users newsfeed.
It should be noted that this is not the same “Sponsored Stories” feature that appeared in news feeds during 2006 and 2007 but instead a current version of their newest sponsored ads option.
Do you think Sponsored Stories will effect the overall news feed structure?
