Facebook is always messing around with something. According to a report from VentureBeat, they’re currently testing out notification sounds. Currently, whenever you receive a new notification, the notification icon turns red with the number, and you see a small pop-up window on the bottom left hand side.
For those who don’t like the idea of notification sounds, the good news is that this feature has only rolled out to a very limited number of users. Facebook’s Manager of Corporate Communications, Meredith Chin, confirmed the sounds. There’s no word on if notification sounds will roll out to more people or even potentially become permanent.
If you find yourself hearing a strange sound on Facebook that’s not related to Chat, chances are you’re not hearing things. To turn off notification sounds if you have them, simply go to “Account Settings” and then “Notifications.”
Once there, you’ll see “On Facebook” underneath “How You Get Notifications.” Click view and then un-check the box that says “Play a sound when each new notification is received.”
Sean Ludwig of VentureBeat, who found out about the new feature, wasn’t exactly a big fan while others are saying “Ewww” and “Bad, Facebook!” To hear the sound for yourself, check out the very short video clip below.
