Facebook is a great place to connect and interact with friends, family members, businesses, and even proved useful this past week in getting a couple of kids a new pet. The story goes like this: Seven-year-old Remi Urbano wanted a new cat.
His parents, Dan and Marisa, were hesitant. After all, a pet can be a big responsibility for a young kid and often ends up being something the adults have to fully take care of instead.
Using the power of social media, they came up with a bet for Remi: If his Mom’s Facebook post got 1,000 likes, they would buy him and his 1-year-old sister, Evelyn, a new cat.
Marisa took a photo of Remi and Evelyn holding up a whiteboard that said, “Hey FACEBOOK! My sister I REALLY want a CAT! My Papa PROMISES we can get one if we can get 1000 LIKES! PLEASE like this picture! Thank you.”
She paid $7 to promote the post and the photo was posted to her profile. After just a few hours, it was pretty clear that the little ones would be getting a cat. Now, less than a week later, the photo has a whopping 115,000 likes, 105,000 shares, and over 10,000 comments.
Living up to their promise, Dan and Marisa picked up a new cat over this past weekend and named her Hairietta L. Pawturr. What does the middle initial stand for? “Likes” of course because it was Facebook and a random bet that got Remi and Evelyn their very own cat.
