In catching up with the times eBay on Wednesday rolled out a new “feed” feature which allows users to showcase products they are interested in purchasing or have already bought. The feed is setup to look much like a Pinterest page.
eBay hopes that the new feeds will better engage with users, thus helping more effectively sell products.
The feed is created by pulling from a users past purchases and their search history. Products are placed in an infinite scroll and the feed can be tailored to include specific kinds of items.
Users can also choose to create their own specific profiles based on sub-sets of products such as “Sports Fan” or “Comic Book Collectibles.”
According to CMO Richelle Parham:
“We’ve evolved. We’ve evolved from a place where you search and search and search to one that engages you, one that delights you.”
The new feed option is already live on eBay and it includes a social feature in which users can create profiles and then share their profiles with friends.
With more than 100 million active users and $70 billion worth of transactions every single year eBay could potentially develop a nice products network on the social side.
