Don’t ‘Let It Go’ Just Yet: Disney Announces Frozen 2

Frozen 2

Disney’s Frozen has created a phenomenon among young girls everywhere. Sisters, Elsa and Ana’s adventures seem to rope kids in and can keep even the most rambunctious child quiet for the film’s duration. Disney knows it has has found gold in the storyline, so why end it with one movie.

The company announced the film during Thursday’s annual shareholder’s meeting. The same Oscar-winning directors, Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck and producer, Peter Del Vecho will head the project.

The announcement shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Frozen has served as a huge cash cow for Disney. It was only a matter of time before the sequel was in the works.

Frozen has made more than $1 billion since its release in November 2013. It has broken records in home video and merchandising sales.

According to Variety, John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, made the announcement at the meeting, “Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.”

The Frozen characters have already reunited for Frozen Fever, an animated short film that chronicles the antics of Elsa and Kristoff as they plan the perfect birthday party for Ana. The short film will be shown in theaters before showing of newly released, Cinderella.

Of course, social media was trending with the news and the puns were aplenty. Even actress, Kristen Bell, who plays Ana took to Twitter to share the good news.

Disney also used the meeting to announce their next Star Wars films.
