With the increasing popularity and medical benefits of Marijuana or Cannabis, it is only a matter of time before huge corporations start taking notice. After all, the next big thing is just around the corner and everyone would want to take advantage of it. Coca-Cola is no stranger to calling dibs on ideas, and paired with the truth that there is no stopping Cannabis, well, we might soon see a Cannabis drink.
It does sound like a drug cocktail merge between cocaine and weed, but far from it. You may want to curb your excitement for a cannabis drink at the moment though since Coca-Cola has not reached a final verdict yet. They are still monitoring how cannabis is going to be received by the general public before going experimental on a drink.
“Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world. The space is evolving quickly,” says Kent Landers, spokesman of Coke. It is worth noting that CBD, or Cannabidiol does not produce the same high associated with raw and regular Marijuana. That means Coke is mostly after the healthy properties of the plant.
Nevertheless, Coke is pursuing a tie-up with Canadian marijuana company Aurora Cannabis and is planning a health drink with them. While Coke’s plans are still not set in stone, this move made public will certainly help with the public’s acceptance of cannabis for medical use and help remove the stigma against it.
