2012 is the first year that YouTube streamed the Presidential debates and it proved to be quite successful, totaling a massive 24 million live views. This news comes after the final Presidential debate which took place on October 22nd.
The 24 million views were divided between 215 countries and territories. United States politics are not just for Americans, and the YouTube analysis just goes to show how big of an interest they have across the globe.
The US was, to no surprise, the clear leader in terms of views. Here’s a breakdown of where the most viewers were from top to bottom:

- Canada
- Australia
- New Zealand
- United Kingdom
- Mexico
- Brazil
- Singapore
- Japan
- France
Interest in the debates didn’t stop with just the live streams. For example, The New York Times uploaded three videos of the first three debates. So far, they’ve seen upwards of 13 million views. The videos uploaded by The New York Times were viewed heavily in the UK, Canada, India, Germany, Australia and France.
In fact, 50% of total views came from outside the United States. Election Day is just a couple weeks away and voters will soon make their way to the polls instead of a YouTube channel.
