We’ve all been on a first bad date, but this latest hook-up horror story to go viral is morbidly fascinating.
One woman shared a Whatsapp conversation with her friend, aptly nicknamed Bridget Jones, as she recounted her date disaster.
When her date asked her to wear all black, “Bridget” thought he was whisking her away to a fancy black tie do.
And like her namesake, Miss Jones is clearly a glass half full kind of gal, as when her date pulled up outside a crematorium she thought he was just stopping for gas.
Instead, her date informed her that they were actually going to a funeral for his grandma.
Even worse, our heroine felt she had no choice but to grin and bear it. After all, no one wants to be the girl who ditched a guy whose gran has just died.

The conversation was shared by Bridget’s pal @itssraych on Twitter, and no one could believe what they were reading.

As soon as I read ‘black dress,’ I knew where this was going but didn’t quite believe it would actually go there…and then it did. Hoooooolyshit.

In the message thread, the friend explained why she decided to see the date through to the end.
“He goes ‘I just really needed someone to come to this thing with me and thought if I told you, you wouldn’t come.’ [He] pulls in and at this point, I’m like f**** there’s no way out.
“So I’m like f*** it, what’s the worst that could happen. It’s his nan’s funeral.
“People are sobbing and I’m like I can’t leave, I’d be a massive bitch. Imagine calling an Uber to a funeral home. Didn’t stay for the wake. Made him take me home after the service. He was holding my hand, crying, I couldn’t leave.”
Bridget then explained that the man was still emotionally fragile after splitting from his girlfriend, who his family had been expecting to meet that day. So, he decided to take Bridget along as a stand-in instead.
And Bridget is clearly a saint, because she spent the entire day drying the tears of an almost perfect stranger.
So next time you’re on a terrible date, just grateful the guy didn’t take you somewhere with a dead body.
