One could wonder why governments are so eager to explore the vast emptiness of space when we still have an ocean’s worth of discovery in, well, in our oceans. In fact, more than 80 percent of the Earth’s oceans remain unexplored to this day. Of course, the ocean in its foreboding vastness contains many mysteries. One of them, a creepy creature carcass, even washed up ashore in New Zealand.
Hannah Mary is a resident of Christchurch, New Zealand and she spent her time on the beach on Saturday due to her civic duty of cleaning up debris. There had recently been a storm in the country, hence the cleanup drive. Mary was terrified, however, upon seeing a weird carcass of an unknown creature which appears to have washed up ashore following the storm.
It was no driftwood nor anything she has seen before and it even made her scream:
“My first thought was that it was something alien, but I was more fascinated than anything,” said Mary. Mary even initially hesitated to touch it thinking it was poisonous. It appears to be some sort of ray but had claws on its wings and some weird fangs and legs. Upon closer inspection, it almost resembled something straight out of the Alien franchise. Like an overgrown facehugger.
Of course, the internet also though the same, most guesses outside of New Zealand said it was creepy and that it was an alien. However, a fisheries scientist named Dr Malcolm Francis stepped in to quell the extraterrestrial dread.
The said creepy creature carcass turned out to be a New Zealand rough skate, it was like a bottom-feeder flat shark with bones made out of cartilage, hence the creepiness. No need to be alarmed guys, Xenomorphs have not begun their invasion… yet.
