Twitter Shortens Link Included Tweets To 118 Characters

Twitter Shortening Now Less Characters Per Tweet

Twitter on Wednesday rolled out its new shortened tweets setup for messages that also include an HTTP or HTTPS link.

Under the new setup the company’s t.co shortening service will allow 118 character for tweet that include https:// links and 117 characters for tweets that include https:// links.

Developers will be required to compensate for the new tweet length within their apps as t.co moves from 20 to 22 characters for non-https URLs and from 21 to 23 characters for secure https URLs.

Are you worried about Twitter taking over those extra two characters when links are included or will you not even realize the change has occurred?

News of the switch was first announced by Twitter in December 2012. The micro-blogging service announced the change early so developers could adapt their applications in time for the official conversation to shorter tweet size allotments.
