In a strange lawsuit filed by phone review and news website PhoneDog.com the company claims former head writer Noah Kravitz owes them $340,000 after Noah left the company and took its Twitter followers with him.
According to PhoneDog Kravitz was running the company’s Twitter account when he departed from the company and changed the Twitter account name to his own, essentially stealing 17,000 followers from the PhoneDog brand.
PhoneDog came up with their massive number by claiming each follower was worth $2.50 per month over an eight month period.
The phone website claims that Twitter followers are in their most basic of terms a list of customers for which an intellectual property lawyer says Twitter followers are simply “people who are just gathering accounts and broadcasting their own content—people who aren’t necessarily paying attention to anything PhoneDog has to say.”
Kravitz was quick to point out that the lawsuit only came forward after he sued PhoneDog.com over unpaid salary. As he amusingly points out:
“If that’s the case, Kim Kardashian’s account would probably be worth billions of dollars of year.”
This should serve as a reminder to other company’s, if you have accounts accessed by employees that are leaving or being fires you should lock them out of those accounts then show them the door.
Do you think Noah has a point about the value of each Twitter follower?
