After a series of recent departures, Twitter looks to be beefing up its commerce team, hiring Google’s Philippe Dauman Jr as a director of commerce partnerships.
According to a tweet Dauman Jr. posted earlier, he is leaving Google after 6.5 years to join Twitter. He is also the son of Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman.

Earlier this year Twitter was reported as nearing a deal with Stripe, a payments startup, to help it accept credit card payments from users on the platform.
Twitter has a history of dabbling about in e-commerce particularly with companies on the outside which it had partnerships with.
Such as in February of 2013 when Twitter linked up with American Express to allow AmEx card holders to use Twitter to buy specific products if their credit cards were synced with Twitter.
They had another deal with Starbucks that was similar, and required users to sync their Starbucks accounts with Twitter before they tweeted to a specific account on Twitter in order to buy a friend a gift card from Starbucks.
Dauman Jr. was most known at Google for his role as development lead for Google Wallet’s Instant Buy business. Last year TicketMaster CEO Nathan Hubbard was hired to lead its commerce initiative.
