Tumblr CEO David Karp Chats With Stephen Colbert About Profits And Porn

David Karp On Stephen Colbert

Tumblr CEO and founder David Karp appeared on the Colbert Report last night. The blogging mogul spent his time talking about turning a profit, porn found on his network, and his decision to drop out of high school at 15 years old.

When Colbert says Karp has been successful thanks to Tumblr the platforms co-founder corrects him:

“Not yet. I’ve got lots to prove. We gotta get this thing to profitability first – that’s a pretty big milestone.”

Karp may be right about profitability but he could retire today thanks to Yahoo’s $1.1 billion acquisition of his tech firm.

Tumblr in the meantime has already began to implement ads following the recent Yahoo acquisition.

When asked about the rampant porn found on Tumblr the company’s CEO explains:

“Look, we’ve taken a pretty hard line on freedom of speech, supporting our users’ creation – whatever that looks like. It’s just not something that we want to police.”

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer recently said the company will not limit porn because of “the nature of user-generated content.”
