Comic-Con 2013 is upon us, and our pals at Networked Insights did what they do best: Analyze the social conversation leading up to one of this year’s biggest events. Some of their findings surprised even us.
Networked Insights analyzed more than 3.5 million conversations on social media leading up to this year’s Comic-Con using SocialSense, their marketing decisions platform (the technology of which is also used by advertisers, marketers and entertainment companies to figure out … well … the things you like).
The social media analytics tech company came up with some pretty unique insights into all-things-Comic-Con being talked about on social media right now, but the biggest in our eyes is that this year, women are leading the conversation.
This is not to say that women don’t have a presence in nerd culture. They’re there, they’re sexy, and they’ve been around for a long time. But so far we know, 2013 is the first year that women are engaging on social media more than men when it comes to Comic-Con.

Some highlights:
- 54% of conversations are from women, 46% from men.
- Women are talking about The X-Files, Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Walking Dead most.
- Overall, Comic-Con fans are most excited about Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Divergent, and The Veronica Mars movie.
- Things being discussed organically: Catching Fire, Ender’s Game, the LEGO Movie, 300: Rise of an Empire, The World’s End, and Veronica Mars.
- Things being discussed because the studio is marketing them aggressively: Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
