Sony is telling movie theaters that they are allowed to pull the newly released comedy, ‘The Interview.’ The news comes after rumors of possible terrorist attacks in theaters showing the controversial film. Starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, ‘The Interview’ follows two talk show hosts who attempt to assassinate Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea under the rouse of an interview.
Many theaters are debating their options after hackers released confidential information comparing threats to 9/11. An email reportedly from the Sony hackers has expressed concern.
“We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time. (If your house is nearby, you’d better leave.) Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment.”
Back in the early days of production, North Korea spoke out against the movie. Dictator, Kim Jong-un promised war if the movie was released.

Despite the threats, Sony has continued to stand behind the film. ‘The Interview’ is set to be released on Christmas day.
The American government has even stepped up to intervene in the issue. The Department of Homeland Security released a statement regarding the possible threats.
“We are still analyzing the credibility of these statements, but at this time there is no credible intelligence to indicate an active plot against movie theaters within the United States.”
Regardless of the validity of the hacker’s claims, the leaked information has reminded Sony how much vulnerability can be created by the lack of security. Sony has been plagued by the leaking of tons of confidential information by recent hackings.
Whether there is any real danger or not isn’t the issue. Many theater owners say it boils down to security. If there will be an attack, it will be because of a lack of theater security. Theaters that will show the film are warned to be prepared with extra security. It better to be safe than sorry, as we learned after the 2012 Aurora, Colorado movie theater slaying.
