AMC Theaters is partnering up with MoviePass to offer a new subscription service that will allow people to see a movie a day for just $35 a month ($45 a month if you want to go to IMAX or RealD 3D movies).
That’s not a bad deal. According to Variety, the average movie ticket is just above $8. That means you’d have to see about four movies a month for the subscription to be worth it. Of course, if you really did go to a movie a day, you’d be getting about $240 worth of movie tickets for just $35.
Brent Cooke, vice president of guest and digital marketing for AMC, told the Denver Post: “We have one clearly defined and shared goal, which is to drive more people to movie-going in the movie theater.”
For the moment, the AMC movie subscription service will only be available in Denver and Boston. The program starts early next year and if it is successful it will start moving to other cities.
Cooke added: “(Denver and Boston) represent a good mix for us in terms of the experiences we are able to offer our guests and also represents a really good mix of consumer types who we think this would have the most appeal to.”
What do you think of AMC MoviePass? Do you think it’s a good deal? Will it increase movie attendance in Boston and Denver?
