The Weather Channel has rolled out deeper Facebook integration today with the addition of My Friends’ Weather. My Friends’ Weather lets you see if your friends are currently experiencing severe weather in their area. Each friend is conveniently grouped depending on different conditions.
From tornado warnings to severe thunderstorms, you’ll know what’s going on wherever they live. To take advantage of the new feature, go here and click the blue “Log in with Facebook” button. A new window will pop up where you’ll need to click “Log in with Facebook” again.
Select “Allow” in the bottom right hand corner and the My Friends’ Weather page will update with a congratulations message. Clicking the button that says “View your friends’ local alerts now” will take you to the social tab on The Weather Channel.
You can send messages to friends from the page and even customize who to display there. On the main page of The Weather Channel where you see your own weather, if any Facebook Friends are currently experiencing severe weather, you’ll be able to see in the right hand sidebar.
A new partnership with Traveler’s will also provide tips on how to best protect yourself and your home depending on the storm. My Friends’ Weather is a great example of how Facebook data can be beneficial and The Weather Channel looks to use that data to help people stay safe.
