Stephen Colbert sat down with President Bill Clinton on Monday night and convinced the former POTUS to sign up for Twitter with the handle @PrezBillyJeff.
Talking to Colbert President Clinton said he was “reluctant” to jump on the Twitter bandwagon. Clinton told the Comedy Central host:
“I think I’m so, sort of, insecure. Like … what if you tweet and nobody tweets back? There’s nothing worse than a friendless tweeter, right?
After more urging Bill Clinton sent out the following tweet from the @PrezBillyJeff account:
Just spent amazing time with Colbert! Is he sane? He is cool! #cgiu
— Billy Jeff Clinton (@PrezBillyJeff) April 6, 2013
The account might be a joke but that hasn’t stopped it from racking up nearly 70,000 Twitter followers.
Clinton also joked with Colbert about the Billy Jeff Clinton nickname, telling the Colbert Report host:
“Once a president leaves office you can call him anything you like.”
Clinton isn’t just hesitant about using Twitter, he also gave a tongue-in-cheek account of his time spent using email:
“After I become president and everybody started sending blizzards of emails within the administration, the Congress subpoenaed them all. And all these young people – drunk with the power of the new technology – said the first thing that came to their heads, so some of these emails were mildly embarrassing.”
What do you think of Bill Clinton’s attitude in dealing with Stephen Colbert?
