‘Star Wars’ Lead John Boyega to Appear in Pacific Rim Sequel

For a long period of time, there was much unrest over whether or not a sequel to Pacific Rim would ever materialize after the first film made huge waves in the movie world. Fans have been able to breathe a little bit easier lately, however, as bits and pieces of the project have slowly but surely begun falling into place.

Not only has the filming of Pacific Rim 2 been confirmed, but the cast members are now starting to be announced, the very latest being John Boyega, who has nabbed the lead role, portraying the son of Stacker Pentecost, who is played by the esteemed Idris Elba, known for works such as the smash hit The Jungle Book (2016) and Thor: The Dark World (2013).

'Star Wars' actor John Boyega will appear in the Pacific Rim sequel, rumored to be released in 2018. The actor will also share a producer credit with the project's director, Guillermo Del Toro.

John Boyega, who killed the game in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will not only star in the highly anticipated sequel, but will also share a producer credit with the movie’s former director Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro announced he had passed directorial duties onto Steven S. DeKnight last month.

The project is scheduled to start filming sometime towards the end 2016, but there is yet to be an official release date from its distributor Universal. According to the popular ComicBook.com, based on the production schedule it will likely see a 2018 release.

Along with Pacific Rim 2, Boyega is expected to appear in the highly anticipated The Force Awakens sequel, better known as Star Wars: Episode VIII.
