Spreecast

Social video platform startup Spreecast has released its first iPhone app and mobile web viewing options for Android and iOS devices.

The Spreecast system is used by broadcasters to stream live video alongside viewer interactions. The platform allows broadcasters to interact directly with viewers who tune in.

Until this point Spreecast interaction occurred only on the company’s website and via an embeddable player available to Spreecast partners.

With the new web player app the company allows users to stream Spreecast broadcasts directly to their iOS and Android-based internet browsers. The browser utilizes HTML5 functionality for cross-browser compatibility.

The iPhone app for Spreecast takes the company’s mobile technology further, allowing users to participate via text chat. The iPhone application also offers social sharing options.

Spreecast soon plans to offer the ability for users to broadcast video directly from their iPhone devices to other Spreecast users.

Spreecast plans to offer Android tablet and smartphone apps in the next few months.

Spreecast already has some impressive clients that include Viacom, Disney, The Wall Street Journal, and the Los Angeles Times.

The social video platform has already raised $11 million which is being put towards adding contextual conversations into the broadcasting mix.

The platform current resides in San Francisco and employs 20 workers.
