Kind of like Intel’s “Museum of Me” earlier this month, HBO’s True Blood is promoting itself with a clever little campaign that pulls your Facebook data to personalize a video featuring you and your favorite True Blood characters.
My inner fangirl squeed when it got to the part with Eric (below) but apps like this are very clever and amusing- I’m surprised we don’t see more of them. Although the inclusion of randos- you can’t pick which friends are featured in the vid- makes it a bit less compelling, the overall idea is something that could really take off when promoting a brand, product or series. Social network users are suckers for personalization, and content like this never fails to amuse. (Like those silly Jib Jab elves that go viral each Christmas.)
If you are fond of your result (despite the fact it depicts many of your friends as missing and presumed victims of a serial killer) you can share it on your Facebook page, tweet it, or get a straight up URL to share with friends. Go to Facebook’s True Blood Immortalize Yourself page to get yours.
Do you think efforts like this are themselves immortal, or will users tire of the gimmick after a few incarnations?
