Using Facebook on an iPad is a bit awkward right now, as you know if you’ve attempted it.
Currently, all that’s available in Apple’s App Store is the iPhone version of Facebook, which is frustrating to use on the iPad. The mobile site is also an option, but the lack of a dedicated iPad app was a notable shortcoming and Facebook for mobile is a less than ideal interface on touchscreen devices.
According to the New York Times, a Facebook app for the iPad is finally forthcoming, but Facebook won’t confirm:
Jaime Schopflin, a communications manager at Facebook, declined to discuss any future products. “We have a great relationship with Apple that is exemplified by our iPhone application, but with regards to an iPad application we have nothing to announce now, and cannot comment on future Facebook products,” she said. Apple declined to comment.
No word on precisely when the app will be available in the iTunes store, but we’ll update as soon as the app is announced.
