A New York Yankees fan found a lost Boston Red Sox World Series ring at a restaurant earlier this week. And no, he didn’t destroy it.
ESPN reports that Restaurant owner Luigi Militello found the 14-carat white gold World Series ring in the bathroom of Luke’s Bar And Grill earlier this week. When the ring’s owner, Drew Weber, called the restaurant to see if his ring had been found, Militello told him to come down the next day to get it back.
Of course, Militello wasn’t just going to hand it over.
Militello said: “But this being Yankees-Red Sox, I started razzing him. I told him he wasn’t getting it so easily. I was playing with him, a lot.”
Militello reportedly tried to get Weber, who owns the Lowell Spinners, a Red Sox Class A minor league team, to call into a radio show and mock the Red Sox. Militello also tried to get Weber to take some photos wearing a Yankees jersey. Neither of those plans panned out.
After he was done making jokes, Militello returned the World Series ring to Weber. The minor league team owner tried to give Militello a reward for returning the ring but the restaurant owner refused to accept cash. They eventually agreed to go to a baseball game together later this season.
And not just any game. Weber will bring Militello to Fenway Park on September 28 to watch Derek Jeter’s final game against the Red Sox.
It’s unclear how much this World Series ring was worth but we’re guessing that it isn’t cheap. The Red Sox World Series ring from 2004 was worth $30,000.
