‘Pinterest Stress’ Affects Half Of All Moms [Video]

Pinterest stress

Try not to get too burned out on Pinterest, moms.

A TODAY survey shows that many moms suffer from something called “Pinterest stress,” a condition that involves feelings of inadequacy in the face of all these wonderful, colorful pins you’re seeing.

The survey showed that more than 7,000 are feeling the Pinterest stress after seeing all of their friends commenting along the lines of “so totally doing this!” on images of decorations, recipes, exercise tips, etc.

Basically what ends up happening is that you start feeling pretty crappy about yourself because you don’t have the time, the required talent, or even really the motivation to “try” the pins you see. As a result, you end up feeling a little left behind.

The site explains:

“42 percent [of moms surveyed about Pinterest] said that they sometimes suffer from Pinterest stress – the worry that they’re not crafty or creative enough … symptoms include staying up until 3 a.m. clicking through photos of exquisite hand-made birthday party favors even though you’ll end up buying yours at the dollar store, or sobbing quietly into a burnt mess of expensive ingredients that were supposed to be adorable bunny cookies for the school bake sale.”

That’s pretty bleak.

Jenna Anderson, 28, runs an awesome site called Pinterest Fail (seriously, check it out), and told TODAY that Pinterest stress “tricks you into thinking that everyone is baking their own bread.”

“Pinterest is largely a site of unrealized dreams … We have a hard time enjoying our own experiences because we feel it’s not worthy of this invisible judge. It’s so easy to get depressed. You start to feel like your entire life has to be like a magazine all the time.”

Sound off, potential female readers! Do you suffer from Pinterest stress? Here’s a video report on the phenomenon. Hilariously, by the end of the clip, both female anchors admit that they are victims of Pinterest stress.

  1. Haha isn't that the truth. They almost NEVER come out like you see on there! It's deceiving! But I'll continue to try until I succeed.

  2. Nothing happens perfectly the first time you try out a new task or skill. You've got to make a few mistakes to get it right. Crafting takes practice and patience. So just practice (for fun), and when you have to come up with something for the bake sale or the kids' birthday parties, you'll already know how to avoid disaster.

  3. Very true! It happens to everyone you just have to keep trying until you get it right.

  4. No, I don't suffer from pinterest stress, lol! I like to look and get ideas from that site but it really doesn't bother me if they don't turn out or I never have time to make them.

  5. There is always someone going to be better than you at most everything you do. Pinterest is a great creative outlet for people to see what there is out there, that could be done. I don't stress about not being able to do things I see on Pinterest, but I know I'm not the craftiest person in the world anyhow lol.
