Pinterest has rolled out updates of its mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android to reflect the new features that were recently added to the web client.
Version 2.3 for iOS and version 1.4 for Android are mostly keeping with what you might expect from Pinterest’s web-to-mobile transition. On iOS, Pinterest users now have a “people who pinned this also pinned” discovery feature and an “edit profile” tool. The iPad Pinterest app looks more like the web client. Android added the “people who pinned this also pinned” discovery feature.
This week, Pinterest overhauled its web service, releasing a redesigned layout with bigger pictures and improved search tools. The Pinterest team’s admitted goal was rebuilding the network from the ground up to help make it more reliable, with the most noticeable differences being the changes to the search results.
Users seems to be embracing the new Pinterest (and by that, we mean we haven’t seen the dramatic fist-shaking and finger-wagging Facebook is known for), so an update to the mobile clients only makes sense.
Following up with Pinterest’s desire to improve search functions, you’ll notice that the new app versions mostly improve just that, with iPhone users seeing the biggest changes.
Now let us know what you think. Have you checked out the new Pinterest app? Do you like the changes to Pinterest overall? Why or why not?
The trend is leaning toward BIG pictures and minimal frames and text. Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, etc. They're all headed in that direction both web and mobile. It's an interesting shift away from the status update prompt of 2005, so I'm wondering how Twitter will react.
Very good point Lianne. Even on our front page at SocialNewsDaily we shifted form a 400 x 300 pixel featured pic to 764 x 540 px. Ultimately we will probably shift to 999px x 540 px. Those pics look awesome on Retina displays and they make sense for mobile.
It is a nice way to interact, especially on mobile. I'm a fan of the app, I don't tend to update mine though.
