Patrick Stewart may not be saying “Engage!” anymore aboard the Starship Enterprise, but with over 720,000 Twitter followers, he’s engaging elsewhere.
To much surprise, the beloved actor rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange this morning in anticipation for Twitter’s IPO.
Honored to join @ev @jack @biz @dickc the @Twitter team at their historic IPO this morning. #Ring! pic.twitter.com/XaJpYW2kIh

Sir Patrick’s presence lead to many confused tweets:
Why is Patrick Stewart at the NYSE? Someone please explain. Thanks. — April Conyers (@april_conyers) November 7, 2013
Was Patrick Stewart paid to do this? Why is he involved? Star Trek feels weird now and that stinks pic.twitter.com/4bQKhHq7Iy — Caleb Garling (@CalebGarling) November 7, 2013
Umm, I love Patrick Stewart too, but why is he at the Twitter IPO launch?

Still confused about @SirPatStew ringing the @NYSE opening bell for Twitter.

However, Patrick Stewart wasn’t the only person who rang the opening bell.
He was also joined by Vivienne Harr, a nine-year-old helping raise money to end child slavery, and Cheryl Fiandaca who represented the Boston Police.
.@twitter owes success to its users, so gives #NYSEBell to @sirpatstew, @vivienneharr @bostonpolice #TwitterIPO pic.twitter.com/f5eqc0Xjht

During an interview this morning with CNBC, Patrick Stewart said Twitter has helped change his career, and one of the reasons he played part in the social network’s IPO.
