You probably don’t know who Amanda (AKA @TrappedAtMyDesk) is, but after the next four minutes, you’ll never forget her.
In yet another powerful testament to the impact of social media on our everyday lives (something we here really kind of love), Amanda (no last name given) tweeted all the way to her final hospital check-in when she finally succumbed to brain cancer.
She only published 169 tweets between 2009 and her death in April 2012, and they’re all we have of her story. Blogger Shannon McKarney put them together for the YouTube video you see above.
Some have suggested that Amanda’s story could be a hoax. To that we say, we really have no idea. Amanda didn’t do much interacting on Twitter and has less than 200 tweets for her three years on the site, but it’s pretty far-fetched to imagine that someone started a Twitter account in 2009 just to wait two years to make up this crazy brain cancer story.
Still, we’ll do some investigation, and if anyone in Amanda’s family reads this and would like to tell her story more completely, have them drop me a line on Twitter.
Until then, we’re giving Amanda the benefit of the doubt. Watch @TrappedAtMyDesk’s video above and let us know what you think in the comments. The clip is unlisted so if it disappears, you can watch it here.
