‘When The Zombies Come’ Director Has An Awesome Kickstarter You Should Donate To

When the Zombies Come

Remember those guys who did that “When The Zombies Come” documentary last year? They’ve got a new movie they’re working on, and they need your help.

Director Jon Hurst’s zombie-prep-at-your-local-ACE-Hardware made him a bit of a viral star early last year. The short, quirky documentary got a ton of attention, took home the top prize at DragonCon, and apparently got a warm response at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Sure, it got every single ACE Hardware employee in the clip fired, but that’s beside the point.

Now, Hurst has opened up a Kickstarter page for his next film and he’s asking for help.

Titled Andy’s Wake, Hurst says the film is about “two reluctant best friends going to a funeral for a friend that was a dick.”

The family puts them through increasingly awkward situations, hilarity ensues. Think Death at a Funeral meets some buddy-college flick. I wish I could think of one …

Hurst isn’t just some slouch, either. He’s recruited some pretty impressive help for Andy’s Wake. His DP has submitted work to AFI-fest, his editor works at Adult Swim on Squidbillies and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and most of his cast is from The Second City improv.

Anyway, I’m all about helping these guys out, so if you’re willing to kick them some lettuce for Andy’s Wake, you can check out their Kickstarter page here.

Oh, I also asked how the ACE Hardware drama over “When The Zombies Come” turned out. Not well, but Hurst tells me that people have visited the store where the doc was shot asking for “zombie killing supplies.”

Awesome.
