The announcement of Jon Stewart leaving ‘The Daily Show’ left many people scratching their head. Who would take his place? Who could fill his shoes?
The heads over at Comedy Central have found their new host. Ironically, no one seems to know who he is.
Very excited to welcome our next host: @Trevornoah! That's right – another guy in late night from Soweto. https://t.co/zlNhBmjg6I

Trevor Noah is a 31-year-old comedian from South Africa. While he may be unknown now, it is just a matter of time before he will become one of the most talked about hosts on television.
The New York Times first reported that Noah would replace Jon Stewart on ‘The Daily Show.’ After a weekend of rumors, it was made official. While many are questioning why the show’s producers would choose a relatively unknown person, others say it is part of the network’s plan to reinvigorate and add new faces to the channel.
Noah has appeared on The Daily Show a few times as a correspondent. He offers a fresh perspective as an outsider and a biracial South African.
“I never thought I’d be more afraid of police in America than in South Africa,” he said with a smile. “It kind of makes me a little nostalgic for the old days, back home.”
He also shared the way he felt when he found out he would be the new host.
“You don’t believe it for the first few hours. You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol.”
It seems former host, Jon Stewart agrees with the choice. In a statement, he shared his happiness for the young comedian.
“I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with.” Mr. Stewart added that he “may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!”
Trevor Noah is quick to add that he will bring a uniqueness to the show.
“I didn’t live a normal life — I grew up in a country that wasn’t normal.”
Despite being new to the scene, Stewart is passing the torch to Noah without any worries.
“He told me, ‘I was where you were when I took over the show,’ ” Mr. Noah said. “ ‘Nobody knew me. I was just starting out, finding my voice, and that’s when I was handed this seat.’ ”
