A Morrissey/Peanuts mashup on Tumblr became hugely popular — so popular that it not only attracted the attention of the big bads who inevitably come along and spoil that sort of fun, but also the Pope of Mope himself.
Yes, Morrissey is reading your Tumblr (are you reading my Tumblr, Morrissey?) — if you’re the guy behind “This Charming Charlie.” As Social News Daily reported earlier, the popular tumblog got one of those “delete this blog forever or else” requests from a music rights group. And that kind of makes it look like Morrissey, who is totally awesome, was himself displeased with the Peanuts Morrissey mashup.
However, Moz himself has confirmed that the Tumblr Smiths tribute is fine by him, despite a higher-ups statement that demanded This Charming Charlie bahleet the blog. The Tumblr’s creator said:
“The Smiths licensing company (Universal Music Publishing Group) has started requesting posts be removed from This Charming Charlie. So far 6 posts have been removed, and it is increasing every hour. If you like the page, please save copies of the comics to your own computer … It was fun while it lasted, I wish Morrissey and Marr were a bit more understanding.”
TrueToYou.com, an online Morrissey zine, explains of the former Smiths frontman’s stance — which is not, in fact, ununderstanding:
Morrissey would like to stress that he has not been consulted over any takedown request to remove the Tumblr blog named ‘This Charming Charlie.’ Morrissey is represented by Warner-Chappell Publishing, and not Universal Music Publishing …
Social News Daily‘s coverage prior to Morrissey’s Tumblr statement can be seen here, and for the record, we love Morrissey all over again.
